Registered Nurse (RN) Interview Questions and Answer Tips
Nursing interviews focus on patient safety, prioritisation, communication and how you stay calm under pressure. Use real patient situations (without identifying details).
Why did you choose nursing? How do you prioritise care when several patients need you at once? Tell me about a time you handled a difficult patient or family member. How do you prevent medication errors? Describe a time you disagreed with a doctor or colleague. How do you handle stress and long shifts?

The rights of medication administration and double-checks. Use barcode scanning and clarify unclear orders. Speak up and report near misses.
5. Describe a time you disagreed with a doctor or colleague.
Why they ask: Advocacy and teamwork.
How to answer:
Patient safety first; raise concerns respectfully with facts. Use your chain of command if needed. Focus on the outcome for the patient.
6. How do you handle stress and long shifts?
Why they ask: Resilience.
How to answer:
Concrete habits: breaks, debriefs, self-care. Leaning on the team and keeping perspective.
